For coffee fans, making the perfect coffee is an art. While the choice of bean or coffee accessories often takes center stage, the importance of water quality is often underestimated. Yet water plays a decisive role in the aroma of the coffee.

Water as a flavor carrier

Water makes up around 98% of a cup of coffee and has a strong influence on the taste. Ideally, it should have a balanced mineral content. Water that is too soft, i.e. low in minerals, emphasizes unpleasant coffee acids, which leads to a sour taste. Water that is too hard and rich in minerals, on the other hand, makes the coffee taste flat and bland as it masks the subtle aromas.
